I taped this 1977/78 program when it was shown several years later (and it's even more years since I taped it). I can't think why PBS hasn't released a DVD; it stands the test of time. I watched the program tonight. The stories are alternately wry, funny, and touching. My favorites are the ones drawn from the writings of Moss Hart, Theodore Roosevelt, and Captain Edward Hulse. "Simple Gifts" puts commercial TV's seasonal offerings to shame.
