I saw this movie in the late 80s and ive loved it ever since. Been waiting a long time for this to come out on DVD. Not your typical Mecha anime. A guy trys to impress his girlfriend by whearing a mecha-suit that was found, now hes traped in it and the army is after him!! Shows how diffacult it can be to roam around in the city wearing a tank!

Based on the autobiographical novel written by Kaylie Jones, daughter of James Jones who wrote "From Here to Eternity" and "The Thin Red Line", this is a unique family story. Kris Kristofferson is cast as the successful writer and Barbara Hershey as his wife. When the film opens they are living in Paris, and adopt a young French boy who is just a bit younger than their daughter Channe, then 7. Her parents drink a lot and live a rather flamboyant lifestyle but there is no doubt they love their children. As Channe matures, we share her ups and downs of growing up as an American in Paris. Leelee Sobieski, then only 14 years old, plays the role of Channe in her teenaged years. She develops a friendship with a boy her age named Francis Fortescue played by Anthony Roth Constanzo, whose colorful personality seem to indicate he will eventually turn out gay. When her father's heart trouble surfaces the family returns to the United States. It's culture shock for Channe and her brother, another interesting chapter in their lives.Produced by Ismail Merchant and directed by James Ivory, the entire production is outstanding. The settings come alive as we experience Paris in the 1960s and America in the early 1970s. And the camera doesn't miss a chance to zero in on the emotional ties between the people, including a housekeeper who turns down a marriage offer in order to stay with the family. Perhaps the strongest scenes, however, exist between the father and the daughter as they discuss love and life. Every actor does such a good job that I forgot they were acting and became totally absorbed in the video which avoids the trap of being too melodramatic or maudlin. It's just a wonderful absorbing story with interesting characters and lots of family love. Recommended. Rock Vocals:Ultimate Beginner Series Review

I actually have all four of the original VHS videos of this series, so it was cool to find they put it all together in one package. I believe the Vocal Basics is by the director of Voice at the Musicians Institue in Hollywood California. But what I love is the rock vocals part of this compilation. Rock Vocals I & II features Tim Bogert, who was the bass player for Vanilla Fudge. I actually attended MI back in 1990-1991 and Tim had an open counseling session for singers, although his job at MI was teaching Bass guitar. I got to be honest, I learned more from Tim in those open couseling sessions than I did from the entire Vocals program. This guy is utterly amazing and will show you ways on this video to sing in your real full voice without straining. No whimpy mixed tones here; all full voice power. If you want a stronger voice and more range, I'd buy this compilation just to watch Bogert in action...Be forewarned that these videos are years old...They may look out of date, but the coaching is priceless!

These are both ADV releases, yet Destroy All Monsters (DAM) is as barebone as can be, and Gamera Guardian Of The Universe (GGOTU) is nicely loaded with bonus features. The DAM dvd has no scene selecton, it a has no subtitles, it a has no Japanese audio, it a has no trailers, it a has no special features, it a has no knickers, it is a knock-ed. (I hope a Benny Hill fan reads this). The GGOTU dvd is loaded with special features like a press conference, interviews, behind the scenes stuff, theatrical and tv trailers, and other stuff. It has english subtitles and a choice of Japanese or English audio. Destroy All Monsters is presented in 2:35.1 Tohoscope. Gamera is listed as 16:9 LB. Possibly a 1:85.1 aspect ratio. As for the movies themselves, I prefer DAM, it's just a lot more fun. But seeing a Gamera movie with a large budget is pretty cool too. One final thing, the DAM dvd plays in a continuous loop. When it ends it automatically starts again.
