Warrant: They Came from Hollywood Review

Let me start things off by saying I'm a huge Warrant fan, from day one. I have everything (CD's, DVD, etc.) they have put out, and even had the chance to see them live last December.

Considering this, any footage that comes out featuring Warrant is welcomed by me and that's why I give it 3 stars.

But, I have to be objective about this DVD, and quite frankly it is very poorly put together. Bits of songs, bits of live performances, incomplete unreleased songs, poor audio, etc. If they're going to release a DVD, they should put out their previous VHS releases (DRFSR Live and Cherry Pie), or a "Greatest Video Hits", or a complete live show (not its and pieces of some shows).

Growing Up: Gift Pack Review

I got these dvds around 2 weeks ago and my 3 year old toddler have been watching them a lot! They are really nice and kid friendly. I would say these are good for ages 3 and up because they are documentary type but don't let that fool you to think they are boring! I find myself glued to the TV every time we see a new episode! This gift pack is good if you don't have the others individual dvds. The dvds that are included are Growing up Primates, Growing up Wilderness, Growing up Cats, Growing up Safari and Growing up Artic. I just wish they would put the other ones they have on VHS on DVD format.

Gatchaman Collection 6 (Vols. 11 & 12) Review

Is the best way to describe this 3 episode DVD! This DVD comes in at #32 in Anime Invasion Magazine's Top 50 Anime DVD's of all time.The Lowdown: As most anime fans may know, before there was a "G-Force" and "Battle of the Planets" there was GATCHAMAN! This DVD series is based on the original Gatchaman concept and character names, and not the edited down American versions that were produced later. So "Battle of the Planets" fans may wonder why there is no 7-Zark-7 or none of the G-Force team shouts, like "G-FORCE!" and my personal favorite "TRANS-MUTE!"The Story: What we have here is a cool and stylish revamp that was produced in 1994 and now just making its way to DVD. It features the well-known Gotchaman characters in updated costumes and mecha. I wish this was made into a series instead of just 3 episodes.Extras: If you already own the originally released VHS tapes and hope that the DVD offers some extra `bells and whistles' there is nothing to be found here. Nothing on the menu other than episode, scene, select and play- this is reason why I gave this DVD 4 stars.At the end of the 3rd episode credits, there is a techno-house Gatchaman music video. Since I never bought the VHS version, I don't know it was originally from the VHS release or not.One advantage is that the DVD is a cheaper than buying the 3 VHS tape set. Oh, and the DVD I bought came with a cool Gatchaman sticker inside.Overall: If you are a "Battle of the Planets" fan, I recommend this DVD- it is great! But I have to caution you, watching it may cause you "Battle of the Planets" flashbacks. And the next thing you know, you will be looking for some of those old BOTP episodes (which is already available in the U.K. on DVD, and will be available in the U.S. soon). Learn & Master Piano Dvd/Cd/Book Pack Review

As a whole, I think this is a pretty good product. The lessons are pretty straight forward and easy to follow (until about lesson 12 - then there is a huge leap in skill level). I took piano lessons all growing up, so I bought the course to try to get back into playing the piano. I'm definitely learning a lot along the way, but I don't find this method specifically helpful for a number of reasons:

1) Instead of focusing on what you should be learning, the instructor often shows off his professional skills instead of really teaching you the basic skills of the piano.

2) Beyond the basic clefs and the notes associated with the two clefs, he really doesn't talk about reading notes that go off the clef, but we end up playing a lot of those notes.

3) Once you get to the advanced units, you really need an 88-key piano. I was playing on a Casio 61-key, so I've had to adjust a few things here and there.

4) There are times when the instructor is almost painfully slow, and then there are times when he goes very fast. It's almost as if he's unsure how to actually pace the course effectively. I really started noticing this in Lesson #12. He starts using more advanced chord positions and often doesn't spend the amount of time necessary really showing you how to finger the chords. I've found it more useful to read the instruction booklet and figure out the chords prior to watching the DVDs.

AND NOW, MY BIGGEST GRIP!

5) When I purchased this set, I made the assumption that this set came with all of the videos necessary to complete this course. Sadly, I was wrong. There is another set of 10 DVDs referred to as the "Workshop DVDs," that do not come with the course. Ultimately, you'll spend another $70 for the workshop DVDs (including postage and handling) if you want to get the workshops. While you can read what the instructor goes over in the workshop within the book, you're missing out on almost half of the learning experience if you don't have the workshop DVDs. After Spending $150 on the basic course, I did not purchase the workshop DVDs. I just think the advertisements for this course should be MUCH clearer to indicate that more purchases are necessary to receive the full course.

This is my impression of the course after completing 18 of the 28 lessons. Thankfully, I also purchased Music Theory for Dummies, which has been a god-send and strong supplement for this course. Often the instructor teaches things within the class but really doesn't full explain them. Having a supplemental music theory book to fall-back on for more information has been a very wise move.

Craig Kennedy - Criminologist Review

This series was made on a very low budget, so the sets are cheap and the stories are performed by the same small group of actors who appear in every episode. This adds to the charm of the DVD set - seeing the chap, who in the previous story wore glasses and played a lawyer, don a moustache in this show to play a hoodlum.

At the end of each story, Craig Kennedy turns to camera and acknowledges the presence of the viewer. A corny gimmick, but nice to see.

The picture quality on this DVD set is excellent. And, as an extra, we get one episode of a 1936 Craig Kennedy movie serial.
