Does this JUDGE JOHN DEEDE - The Complete Collection - Series 1-6 offering include the missing (withheld) Season 5 episodes 5 and 6???? If YES, then this is the ONLY way I have found that Martin Shaw fans outside of the UK can get these missing episodes. If NO, then this is collection is just a convenient repackaging of the individual seasons the BBC licensed for distribution by 2 entertainment Video (PAL, Region 2 format), which excluded these episodes.

Maybe I missed it, but I could find NO DETAILS regarding the contents of this collection. For those aware of the episode gap, if they are present this is a BIG selling point. Since this information was not highlighted, I suspect they are not included.

NOTE - The BBC has JUST started to directly release DVDs of each season of this 2001-2006/7 series in NTSC/Region 1 format. Considering the time gap between when they stopped production (with no story line closure) and issuing the DVDs, the snail pace of one DVD per year is interesting. That said, lord knows WHAT they will do when they finally get around to releasing the season 5 DVD.

What is really interesting is how quickly the Martin Shaw, George Gently series have been issued on DVD versus how the JJD series DVD treatment was handled.

RATING BOTTOM LINE - it depends on what you are looking for. The base product, the JJD series has outstanding stories, actors, and performances. As the seasons rolled along GF Newman appears to have been increasingly challenged to find topics to attack in his story lines. This probably caused the season 5 controversy regarding the factual (scientific) validity of the MMR story line.
