Purchased this last year, and have not ceased enjoying perusing it - watching all 8 games in their entirety, plus the substantial documentary film material, 1 show filmed in 1972 shortly after the Series had finished, and 2 much more recent films on what all was going on, on and off the ice.
The intensity is electrifying, the level of play generally exceedingly high - seeing the best Soviet players then, versus the top NHL skaters - what more could a true hockey fan desire? (I wish I had been there...

It's also illuminating to see the change in (many) Canadians' consciousness: from presuming their fellas would wipe up the Soviets, to (after losing 7-3 in Game 1), realising that the Soviet players were outstanding athletes, and particularly, a great team.

The Mad Doctor of Market Street Review

For years I have been hoping for some of these B thrillers to be released on DVD. This film can be bought on its own or as part of a 5 discs set exclusive to Universal with limited distribution. While some younger viewers may not really get excited over such films, old Universal Horror fans will certainly remember Lionel Atwill starring in a string of these atmospheric thrillers.

'The Mad Doctor of Market Street' is one that I remembered the name more than the actually movie. It features Lionel Atwill as the title character and is a weird mix of evil scientist and exotic island hokum. This film runs just over an hour and is a fun thriller for those who enjoy the good old horror days.

The print here looks very good and Universal has included some extras including lots of stills, lobby cards, posters and some on screen trivia about the film. I doubt this film and the four others included on the box set Universal Cult Horror collection will see a general release.

The NFL's Greatest Games - Super Bowl III (New York Jets vs. Baltimore Colts) [VHS] Review

Number III was the one that truly made the Super Bowl the biggest game in American pro sports, thanks to the media coverage following Joe Namath's 'Guarantee' of an underdog Jets victory. It also proved that the youthful American Football League could contend with the veteran NFL on the playing field.But the other team, the Baltimore Colts, had plenty of opportunities to take the game far away from their opponents. There's Tom Matte's then-record-setting 58-yard run that set up... an interception. There's a couple plays where Colts QB Earl Morrall didn't see a wide-open receiver to throw a scoring toss to, one of those missed opportunities ending in an interception. There were also the two missed Colts field-goal attempts. Baltimore basically lost on offensive miscues and mistakes, and the Jets took advantage of them at every opportunity. Baltimore wouldn't even score for nearly fifty-six minutes of regulation time. And the Jets, surprisingly, used a conservative ball-control offense to wear the Colts defense down.Even thirty years later, Super Bowl III is, quite possibly, the biggest upset in American pro sports history.'Late! She Fought Alone (Region 2) Review

High school sports be it in a small town or urban area, take a front seat to academics. The star of the football team rapes a student and the student is made to be the villain. Tiffani Amber-Thiessen, all grown-up from "Save By the Bell" plays a student trying to elevate her popularity by hanging out with the "cool" crowd only to be an outcast becasue she refused to allow her attacker get away with a crime. Her girlfriends are unsupportive of her because they are too caught up in this "hunk" who is nothing more than a senseless jerk.

The principal, a female and mature woman, seems to turn a blind eye to this. She is part of the problem as to why our education system is failing. The lack of academics and student conduct and too much emphasis on the school winning a team doesn't make an upstanding school. She at first isn't willing to take drastic action until a lawyer comes in and lets her know what the law is and says. That is when she starts to panic and gathers her senses.

This is a movie not only for the audience to watch, but a tool for educators who think they can sweep up problems like this under the rug.

Being a Sasquatch researcher and writer I am always looking into films and documentaries about the Bigfoot mystery. Often times documentaries are rehashed theories, tired unsuccessful methods of tracking and arguments. Imagine my surprise when I wathced Todd Partain's "Eyes in the Dark," Finally a breath of fresh air in the realm of Cine du Sasquatch! Todd gives an excellent collection of accounts from a variety of witnesses and gives us, the viewer, something we often aren't treated to in a Bigfoot piece...great re-enactments of the stories being told! Kudos, Todd, and anyone else on a job well done! Even though this is a small independently produced film this by far surpases many of the documentaries with an actual budget being shown on stations such as Discovery, History and others. And as a special treat we get a brief and humorous "behinds the scenes" look at Todd's buddy reluctantly transforming from man to beast. Shows what a true friend will endure for a pal! Todd, if you plan on future films let me know. You've made a fan!
