I would always try and earn or get 25 cents for the saturday matinees in the early 1950's, and all my life since a small boy I loved good stories...books and on film.
The western genre always held something special for me and I can find something in every one I think, always some actor, story line, scenery, music, etc, that held me and to this day I love many of the older movies ...and especially the Rocky Lane movies. In the short space to comment here I can only say that he was one of the finest actors and like some other actors that seem to just have to appear on the screen and they always offer so much in their talent and appearance, they remain a favorite forever. They are "naturals," like Spencer Tracy, Redford, Tom Selleck, Jim Garner, Kirk Douglas and Henry Fonda.
I am so glad I got this DVD set of 81 (approx. 60 minute movies) of Allan Rocky Lane playing Red Ryder for 8 movies, all the others in here are his adult type westerns from the '40's up to 1953. Few know that Allan Lane was the voice of "Mr. Ed," the successful talking horse comedy from 1960-1966. Rocky Lane died in 1973 of cancer at only 64 yr old and saddened even to this day all of his fans who wanted him to do something more on the silver screen, to see and hear that talented, rugged, handsome cowboy with talent like none of the others had. His person, the man himself, is another good story as well.
