The Erotic Dreams of Jeannie Review

The Erotic Dreams of Jeannie is, you guessed it, a softcore parody of the "I Dream of Jeannie" television series. This was my first Retromedia title, so I didn't know what to expect. From the description of the release I was a little worried that I wouldn't get too much actual softcore. Fortunately, that wasn't the case, and what they advertise about the release isn't really what ended up on the DVD: "Full of parody, political satire, and hip insider humor ...". Okay, I can agree on the parody, but political satire? Hip insider humor? I must have missed that part. "... a laugh-filled special effects-laden spoof ...". Now this is accurate. There were many places I was laughing at the pathetically bad special effects that were used.

But, on to what counts. This video delivered nicely in the sex department. There are six sex scenes. Three are boy/girl, two are girl/girl, and one is boy/girl/girl. All the women were gorgeous and included pornstar Nicole Sheridan and softcore veteran Beverly Lynne. There were two other women who were also very attractive. The sex was decently explicit and filmed well. The sounds of the actors were still audible during the scenes and all scenes went to completion.

Extras included a still gallery and a commentary track from a couple of people involved in the movie's production. I listened to a bit of it, and it sounded interesting, so I'll probably go back later and listen to the whole thing.

This is a good video, but Retromedia could have done better. The actual movie only ran about sixty-five minutes. But in order to pad out the runtime to make it appear like a full length film, the opening and closing credits are stretched out to run as long as they possibly can. There was plenty of opportunity to fit in one or two more sex scenes. They also need to advertise their product better. Like I said before, it isn't very clear that this is a softcore video, and I can imagine people passing it up because of that. I also had no idea that Beverly Lynne was in this video until I watched it. She's a softcore hall of famer. Why they didn't have her name on the outside packaging is beyond me.

For the price, this is a good release and I recommend it. I'll probably be checking out other Retromedia releases, but they aren't going to achieve the distinction of studios like Playboy or Surrender unless they improve their quality and value. They've got some beautiful women and talent, they just need to use both of them more effectively.

Incredible Handgun Accuracy From the Ground Up Review

This product helped me improve my technique dramatically. I had purchased a compact 9mm and after about 100 rounds, I was sure that the sights were off. I took it to a gunsmith along with a target I had shot and he immediately told me that he had seen those results hundreds of times and that it was not the sights...it was my technique. So, I looked for something I could do for myself, other than pay for an instructor, and found this product. After sticking with the exercises for 30 days my accuracy dramatically improved. I recommend it, but the 15 minute per day dry fire exercises do take some discipline to complete regularly. The results were worth it for me.

Paramount Scared Shrekless/mva Mutant Pumpkins [dvd/2 Discs/side By Side] Review

I guess when it comes to holiday programming, you could say that I'm fairly old fashioned. The classics that I grew up with when there weren't as many television options became yearly traditions--by familiarity, if not always quality. Today, with hundreds of stations to select from, kids can be more choosy. And yet, I'm still rarely blown away by the options presented. When Dreamworks, therefore, adopted two of its film franchises into new Halloween spectaculars--I was a bit skeptical. The original "Shrek" was one of my all time beloved movies although the series was beginning to show wear, while "Monsters vs Aliens" may have had its moments but it wasn't a particular favorite of mine. I was, therefore, pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed these two brief specials. "Scared Shrekless" and "Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space" can be purchased individually, but certainly qualify as a better deal in a combination pack if you want both. Note: These aired as 30 minutes specials with commercials--so approximate running times are about 22 minutes each if that makes a difference in your buying choice.

In "Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space," Susan (Reese Witherspoon) and her team of wacky cohorts are now government operatives. Near Halloween, an alien presence is detected in Susan's hometown and the crew is dispatched. While everything appears calm, soon innocent jack-o-lanterns are revealed to be nefarious aliens with a cunning plot to take over the world. Fast and funny, with plenty of gourd guts, this showdown is well orchestrated and gives every member of the team a chance to shine. The addition of Susan's family adds some amusement--obviously, their little girl isn't so little anymore. Fun for the little ones, it is still engaging to older audiences with sly references to Gremlins, Psycho, Halloween and other genre classics and in-jokes. Truthfully, I enjoyed this twenty-two minutes of mayhem more than I did the entire feature film. By cutting out the extraneous plotting, they've devised a tight and economical comedy special that really delivers and has heart as well.

In "Scared Shrekless," the ogre family and their friends are enjoying Shrek's favorite holiday--you guessed it, Halloween! A wager is set forth in which everyone will tell a creepy tale and the last to get scared wins! Then the individual narratives unfold (kind of like a Simpson's Treehouse of Terrors) and classic horror stories get a decidedly unique spin through the land of fairy tales. The program uses the familiar characters to excellent affect and (despite the absence of Eddie Murphy) these two-dimensional creations display remarkable life. The horror parodies are spot-on (I won't spoil anything here) and hilarious. Still creepy, though, this definitely plays well to an older audience. Young kids, as in every "Shrek," will miss the in-jokes and cultural references but should still enjoy the manic pacing. I've got to tell you, I quite loved this special. To me, it was more engaging than the Christmas themed "Shrek The Halls." Still funny, the "Shrek" franchise has survived on showcasing the strength of having a strong circle of family and friends--and that certainly shines here too amidst the lunacy. KGHarris, 6/11.

The Adventures of David the Gnome (3 Disc Box Set)-Nick Jr Review

There are 2 complaints I have with this set. One, the episode titles are not the same titles as what were originally aired on Nickelodeon, however they are the same episodes, just different titles for some reason. The other complaint I have is that the episodes only come in the movie format. Basically this means that the episodes play back to back without the show's introduction. When you hit play movie, it does show an into on the first episode of each disc with the original song, however the intro is NOT the same as it was on Nickelodeon, which bothers me a bit. You can watch the episodes individually as well, but when you select that option, no intro is shown at all.

However, the set does contain all the episodes I love and remember. The set does have good picture and sound, and my few complaints I have with the set are not enough to suggest not buying it.

Doggie Cuts Review

Like most people who'll buy this DVD, I wanted to save some money and save my dog the stress of the groomer visit. This DVD was a great component in my learning how to groom at home.The DVD shows 4 basic doggie cuts, and they vary enough that you can apply one or a combination of techniques to your dog. There were many hints about dog bathing/health care that were very helpful. Based on talking to my dog's previous groomer and watching the very brief video that came with the clippers I bought, I had been able to groom my dog for over a year. But after watching the DVD I was able to finally give my dog an almost professional looking haircut.The DVD does have some faults. The main one is that they're all small dogs. My 50 pound terrier/cattle dog mix is not easy to pick up and turn in the position you want. I definitely needed my husband to help out during the trim. I wish Patrick Murdock would've trimmed a big dog, and maybe shown the proper techniques to using a harness.A technical drawback is that the DVD is just one track. You think they would make a separate track for each dog style but that isn't the case. This makes it extremely hard to get to a certain section for review. You just have to fast forward and hope you don't miss it.Still, it's a great DVD to own for the at-home groomer.
