Lee Byeong-hoon, the director of the hit TV series "The Jewel in the Palace," came back in full force with the historical period piece, "Yi San," the story about King Jeong-jo, the 22nd king of the Joseon Dynasty. Yi-san (Lee Seo-jin) is just a child when his grandfather, King Young-jo (Lee Sun-jae) locks up his father, the Crown Prince, in a rice container and starves him to death because he suspects his own son of mutiny. During this terrible time, Yi-san befriends two children for life, Seong Song-yeon (Han Ji-min) and Park Dae-su (Lee Jong-su). Thereafter, as Yi-san grows up, the attempts on his life grow more and more heated as someone is desperate for him to die before ascending onto the throne. As the conspiracy thickens, Yi-san finds support and hope in his friends, particularly Song-yeon, towards whom he develops feelings of love. Yi-san eventually does become the 22nd king of the Joseon Dynasty, and he is one of the most innovative and reform-oriented kings in Korean history.

This is a really don't miss Korean Epic Legend, beautifully filmed drama. Customes are superb with beautiful design and color. Quality of the DVD pictures are outstanding similar to HD quality.
Story and portrayal of actors are very realistic.
I have watched a few Korean TV Series such as JUMONG, JEWEL IN THE PALACE, LEGEND of Four Gods, this film is up there if not better.
Sit back, relax and dedicate at least 3hrs because you just can't watch just 1 episode, you will long for more, guaranteed! My wife and I were sad after we saw the last episode of Vol. I, we should get the rest of the Volume this week I hope. Happy viewing, fans...

My boys (5 and 8) watch these DVD's and giggle, repeating their favorite lines and acting out the silliest parts later. They're having a great time watching the cute, charming and funny Susy with her crazy friends. She truly has a gift for engaging children. They just LOVE her. Oh, and by the way, they're learning Spanish. They strive for comprehension because they want to know what's going on, and they can follow along because of the repetition and visual cues.

We listen to the CD's in the car, and I concur with the parents who report that they've learned a lot without even trying. We're getting our money's worth! I was inspired to enroll in a Spanish class for adults and my teacher is so impressed with my vocabulary -- all stuff I learned from Let's Play In Spanish. My children like the song books because of the colorful pictures, but they also help me sing along and learn how to recognize the words. The coloring books are a wonderful idea because they're quiet, portable, interactive and the material is consistent: even the shapes and colors appear in the same order as they're listed in the songs. Everything in the package reinforces everything else. I'm impressed with the thought that went into it.

Over the past few years, I've spent hundreds of dollars on Spanish DVD's for my children because I think it's important to learn a second language. But there are very few they're willing to watch more than once. Teacher Susy's are the exception, maybe because they're not just DVD's. They're part of a comprehensive interactive curriculum that's cleverly disguised as entertainment.
