Sleepover Review

"Sleepover" is a four star flick--if you're thirteen. I'm not saying that it's a bad film, it's just very, very demographically targeted at a specific audience. The producers knew exactly what they were doing when they green-lighted this project. It stars "Spy Kids" alum Alexa Vega, and "Darcy's Wild Life" and "Aquamarine" star Sara Paxton. It also features Sam Huntington ("Jungle 2 Jungle," "Superman Returns"), and pre-teen starlets Kallie Flynn Childress, Mika Boorem, and Scout Taylor-Compton. The adult cast features a pre-"40 Year Old Virgin" Steve Carell, fellow "Virgin" star Jane Lynch and "Daddy Day Care" star Jeff Garlin.

The plot revolves around a, you guessed it, sleepover, in which a jilted Paxton decides to gang up with her friends to challenge Vega and her brood to a scavenger hunt. The prize in the balance is to either sit at the fountain during lunch or near the trash bins. Sophomoric, I know, but it works perfectly in this little comedy. The tasks in the hunt range from swiping a tag off of a rent-a-cop car to "borrowing" a pair of underwear from the apple of Vega's eye.

From there, the story becomes pretty formulaic. The girls go from one task to another and achieve them with pre-teen humor in full force. Carell fails horribly in his attempt to catch the girls in the act. It all plays out like an expanded episode of "Full House" where D.J. and her pal Kimmy get into typical pre-teen sitcom trouble. In the end it works as a pre-teen story, but most people older than fifteen will probably not care to watch it more than once.

Although it's a pretty good flick, I'd only consider buying it when my daughter hits the age of ten or eleven. Even then, however, this movie would probably only warrant a four year shelf life before my daughter grew tired with it. It's perfect for sleepovers, and coupled with Paxton's "Aquamarine" (which is actually pretty good), it's a guaranteed good time for young girls.

I bought this item in white. I chose this particular item because I thought it was more attractive than other utilitarian media storage units.

When I opened the box to assemble the unit I thought it was flimsy, but it did initially look nice once put together. However, the shelves are only thick paperboard and within a day of holding DVDs began to bow. This makes it look indisputably cheap and ugly.

I like the style, but it can't perform the function for which it was designed without deforming. I will need to replace this unit with something more sturdy, so this was a terrible investment.

I have owned this video since it was available and it is one of my favorite . I have played it so many times, I'm almost due for a new one. The subject just seems to take me back to my childhood of neighborhood grocerys, milk men and of course, mom and pop restaurants. Rick Sebak's easy narration style adds the right touch, making the whole documentary feel not so documentary-like. The soundtrack helps to enhance the old time feel of the subject. This video is a must for any diner buff or anyone that likes nostalgic trips back to a simpler time.

Hanaukyo Maid Team La Verite - The Complete Box Set Review

Hanaukyo Maid Team is a series about a boy, age never given though I'm guessing mid to late teens from his maturity if not stature, named Taro Hanaukyo who after the death of his mother finds himself the head of the Hanauhko family after his grandfather ups and leave. He is instantly taken to the families manision filled with beautiful but obessive maids wanting to serve him. Thus let the hillarity begin. You have to wonder sometimes though who exactly is the master, Taro or the maids.

Review time. Maid Team starts out with genuanlly Echii episode but it quickly simmers down, make no mistake there is still quiet a bit of nudity and sexual situations so you'll want to keep this one out of sight from the kiddies and from women if you want to keep living. However the slight perviness aside it's a rather light hearted and innocent story that's rather enjoyable story. The Characters are all likeable and have their own personality, some of which are rather unquic. The story line, is pretty basic with only one big turn that might take you by surprise. The animation is smooth and stream line. The humor that's makes up the series is though the basic gags go the next step of those gags making them as funny as they were when they were first used. The voice acting could have used some minor tweeks but nothing to serve or annoying. The Music is average anime fair, which means enjoyable enough to listen to. Prety much everything is about dead on though not exactly perffect, Id give it 4.5 if I could but can't sorry.

As for the flaws, there really aren't any beside it being to short to go into more detail on eah characters.

In the end Hanaukyo Maid Team is an enjoyable series just short of perfection and worth the buy.

This is an adult film that is nostalgic with some powerful performances by the entire cast. Everything about this film captures the era of the early sixties from the houses and their contents to the innocence portrayed on the screen. Lea Pool has crafted a film that anyone would and should view. The original music score composed by Laurent Eyquem (nominated for three major Canadian Awards) was touching, memorable and first rate. The soundtrack compact disc on the label Analekta is well worth the investment . If you see one Canadian film this is the one to see.
